Diabetes Disease
The diabetes disease occurs when the body fails to process sugars the way they are intended. When we consume food or fluids, the pancreas produces a hormone known as insulin. This travels to the blood stream and aids in the adjustment of glucose. The diabetes disease exists when this failes to be the case.
The reasons for this are; a lack of insulin production, known as type 1 diabetes, or a bodily resistance to it and therefore renders it effective. This is known as type 2 diabetes.
Although fundamentally, the diabetes disease is not life-threatening, high blood sugar in the long run can damage the diabetics health. The diabetes disease, when failed to be managed can harm certain body parts as the heart, nerves, eyes, and especially your kidneys. To reduce the risk of the aforementioned problems later in life, it is necessary for a diabetic to control his blood sugar.
The most straightforward way to determine the presence of the diabetes disease is to have your doctor check your blood sugar. He uses an electronic tester to garner a sample of your blood. Between seventy two and one hundred and twenty six mg/dl is considered to be normal blood sugar in the US. When the body is found to be unable to maintain the blood sugar within these limits, the diabetes disease is acknowledged to be present.
The diabetes disease can exist within the sufferer for months or years without them realizing they have the condition. It's possible that it appears from nowhere during a general check-up but it is more likely to be found when the sufferer requests to be tested for the disease after experiencing symptoms. The amount and severity of these symptoms are not standard and do differ between patients.
The symptoms are:
Increased urination. Sufferers of the diabetes disease urinate frequently and in large volumes each time. It is not uncommon for the diabetic to wake up in the early hours of the morning, even if in a deep sleep, needing to go to the bathroom. The high sugar levels in the blood pass through to the urine.
Increased thirst. No matter how much a diabetic drinks, he can still be thirsty, Before diagnosed is even recognised as being present, the thirsty symptom can make it worse due to the high amount of sugar in certain fluids. This increases the blood sugar level further and in turn makes him even more thirsty.
Weight Loss. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body and due to the diabetic's body not being able to handle it, it travels to the urine and is released through the body. A lack of fuel means that the body's reserve tissues are failing to do what's necessary to produce energy. This then results in a loss of weight.
Other symptoms include blurred vision, an increase in infections, tiredness, reduced energy, and constipation.
If you experience any of these symptoms, it's not considered to be a cause to panic as it doesn't necessarily mean the diabetes disease is present. However, you are strongly advised to consult your doctor. So please be sure to do so.
